- Mrs Margaret Mac Cowell, aged 84, a native of Granard parish, but now living in Dublin told (1935) of this well.
It is along the road (in Ballybrien) leading from Granard to Longford. According to Mrs C. this was a blessed well. The fact that the monks of Granard monastery (at Clough) were Cistercians may account for the well's being dedicated to Saint Malachy. - Mrs MacCowell says that this well was blessed by some saint but as it was 'dishonoured' it went dry but broke out where it is now is. The saint who blessed it was accidentally drowned in Coolcor Lough.
