  1. St Fechin built his mill on the side a high hill. The people thought that he was foolish as he had not any way of working it. One day a man passing. He asked the Saint how he would be able to turn the machinery, when there was no water power or other force near. The Saint replied, " Trust in God, " Then he struck the rock with a hammer and the stream of water poured from it.
There lived in Fore in Westmeath, a very Saintly Monk whose name was Fechin. There were no mills at that time to grind the corn which was the principal food of the people. The old people used to have a hollow stone like a basin, and an other stone to put into the hollow. Between these they would grind their daily amount of corne.
The water from this mill is a large river which at places it is 12 ft deep. It is full of trout. The water is noted for its clearness, you could see the fish play on the bottom even at its greatest depth. There are also the ruins of an old Church there.
