    Spinning
    An old woman named Nellie Dolan who lived in Latnadrona Crosserlough, used to spin flax into thread on a spinning wheel. Before being brought to her the flax had to be steeped, dried, beetled, and scutched. It was beetled by a machine containing two wooden corrugated rollers. The wheel of this machine was turned round and round by two men. The beetling removed all the rough shoves.
    It was next scutched by being placed on a wooden frame called a stalk and beaten a scutch. This process removed the two and fine shoves. The flax was then tied in bundles weighing about 1 stone each and was brought to the spinning wheel.
    The spinner let the flax into the spinning wheel in slivers (streaks of flax). These slivers were spun into thread which was rolled on a spool, the rolls were controlled
