- (continued from previous page)Snowstorm: A very heavy snowstorm occurred about 50 years ago when the people awoke in the morning the snow was almost as high as the doors of the houses and the people tried to remove it as best they could.
On the following nights they kept shovels inside the doors so as to be able to shovel the snow to one side in the mornings. It was well they did so, as the snow was still higher on the days that followed. With great difficulty paths were made to the wells, turfricks and potato heaps and were it not for the potatoes and oatmeal which were in the houses the people would have starved. The snow remained for about three weeks.
Drought: a great drought occurred in the Sumer time about 50 years ago. Rivers ponds and many wells became dried up and people were obliged to carry water long distances and use it sparingly.
Cattle contracted diseases such as Murrin and many of them died.
The drought lasted for many weeks.- Collector
