The following are notes written by Mr. John Purtill, O'Curry Street, Kilkee, who died about three years ago.

" On Monday, December 21st 1925 Mr. Michael Scanlon of Goleen told me (John Purtill) there were two standing stones or flags in Bishop's Island with two lines of inscription on each, and though being an Irish scholar he could make no hand of them as they were strokes. I told him then that the inscriptions were most probably Ogham"."On Sunday, November 13th 1904, Jack Collins, Moveen told me that his brother Tom when putting sheep into Bishop's Island a few years ago saw in the Island two flags laid on the ground, and he was convinced from the size that they were tombstones. On Friday, January 11th 1929 the above named Tom Collins came into my shop and I asked him about above named flags in Bishop's
