  1. Hallowe'en falls on the 31st of October and many games are played that night such as dressing up and going round from house to house looking for money. Some people put sixpence into a basin of water and somebody else puts his head down and tries to get it and others hangs an apple out of the ceiling and the one that gets the first bite out of it gets it. That is the night there are plenty of nuts and boxty (breat) bread. The town is lighted up with rockets and sciubs.
