  1. Weddings take place during Shrove as Lent follows. On Shrove there is an ancient custom that after confession and absolution on this particular Tuesday, the people should feast and make merry the remains of which custom exist in the eating of pancakes on that day. May is the unlucky month of the year and Saturday the unlucky day of the week for marriages.
    Matches are still made in this district and money is given as a dowry but stock or goods are not given now. People do not remember marriages taking place in houses but they remember hearing of it. After the wedding the bridegroom throws out some money to the children and the bride must wear, Something old; Something new;
