  1. Hidden Treasure
    9-11-1937
In the town of Belturbet, at the top of Deanery Street, just opposite the presbytery, is a field in which are a couple of mounds locally called 'banks'.
It is said that there are crocks of gold buried in these mounds.
The old people believe that it was the fairies that put them there and that in order to get the gold you would have to catch a fairy.
    Francis Morris,
    Barrack Hill,
    Belturbet,
    Co. Cavan.
I heard the above from my grandmother – Mrs. Susan Blythe – who lives with us and who is now seventy-four years of age.
Transcribed by a member of our volunteer transcription project.
