- When Cromwell came to Belturbet he put all the people out of their houses. They ran down to the end of the Naughan Road and climbed up the trees there. When they were all up the trees Cromwell and his soldiers reached them and cut down the trees and all the people were killed. From that day forth that piece of the road on which the people fell is called the "Bloody Pass"
