There are many old marriage customs around this district.

There are many old marriage customs around this district.
After the wedding the bride and groom go on their honeymoon. When the bride and groom come back off the honeymoon a reception is held in the bride's house. In the evening strawmen come to the house. The groom gives them money which usually amounts to a pound or ten shillings.
Most marriages are solomnized before Lent and Advent. There is an old rhyme which is as follows:
Married on Monday married for health,
Married on Tuesday married for wealth,
Married on Wednesday married for luck,
Married on Thursday married for losses,
Married on Friday married for crosses
