There was a nailer's shop in Belturbet. The owner was Mr. Philip Allen. His two sons worked with him. Their names were Mr. John and Mr Thomas Allen. The shop was in Chapel Road. Mr. Allen's daughter, Miss Mary Allen has a sweet-shop there now.
The implements he used were a hammer and a pair of tongs. He used to put a rod of iron in the fire and left there until it was red. When it was red he took it out and cut it into the size of a nail.
