Stories of Giants and Warriors.
There is an old story of a Giant who lived in Aughrim. This monster's name was Bellconnell. It is said that this Giant went to war with another Giant who lived in Lisanover. The two Giants fought a great battle in Ballyheady and the fight ended in a win for Bellconnell, who when he killed the other monster ran home. He however was nearly killed himself. When the Lisanover Giant's Sisters' heard that their brother was killed, they followed up Bellconnell with aprons of stones. Bellconnell in the meantime had died and was buried on the little Island at Ballyconnell. That is how Ballyconnell got its name. When the Giant Woman heard that Bellconnell was dead they threw away they threw away their heap of stones on Ballyheady mountain and(continues on next page)
