    A Story.
There is a story told about Conall Cearnach. It was supposed that he lived with a crowd of Giant women in Meath, and they fell out with him and chased him away from them and warned him not to come back. He started away but the women filled their aprons with stones and followed him as far as Ballyheady where they gave up the chase and dropped their stones in a heap, and it is said this that, that is the the cairn of stones come to be there. Conall travelled on as far as for Ballyconnell, but he was exhausted and died some place about the town and it is beleved that this is the way Ballyconnell got its name.
