  1. About 50 perches to the south-east of the Daimhliag, there is a large church called "Teampull na Marbh". Here the people of the island bury the dead. In former days it was the favourite burial place of the most distinguished families in Corca Bhaiscin. In stormy weather, however, Shanakill, near Kilrush was used instead. At one time it was a popular belief that all the bodies buried in Shanakill were conveyed under the bed of the river into the Island burial place.
