  1. About a hundred yeras ago, a woman named Mary Melican lived in Scattery Island. She was very poor, and she had no near relations on the island, she first lived on the charity of others. The McMahons especially were kind to her, and even went as far as giving her lodgings each night. She was a favourite with all, and was known in the island as "Old Gran".
