  1. I am a roving hackler lad that loves the Shamrock shore,
My name is Pat McDonnell and my age is 84.
Beloved and well-respected by my friends one and neighbours all,
In sweet Stradone I am well known
    Round Laragh and Grousehall.
    II
When I was young I danced and sung and drank good whiskey too
In each shebeen shop where they sold a drop of real "Old Mountain Dew".
There is Poteen still on every hill the peelers had no call
On Patrick's Ddy I love to stray for pleasure to Grousehall.
    III
I ramble round from town to town, for hackling is my trade
Nor can deny or think that that I an honest living made,
Where ere I'd stray the neighbours they are sure to give a call
To have the crack with Paddy Jack, the hackler from Grouse Hall
