- The name of my townland is Muff.
The Irish of this name is "Magh", which means "a plain". There is a level place in the townland and that is how it got its name.
Here are the names of the fields ion our townland, "the ragweed field", "the flax field", "the well field", "the holly field", "the byre field", "the long field".
This is the reason the field called "the ragweed field" got its name. Every year ragweeds grow in this field. There grew flax in the field called "the flax field". A well is situated in the field titled "the well field". A holly tree is growing in the field named "the holly field". The byre is at the foot of the field styled "the byre field". This is the way they got their names.
There is a well in townland called the "well of the Drowning". Some years ago an old man and woman living near the well, took water(continues on next page)
