  1. There is no special time for marriages to take place. They are held any time of the year except Lent and Advent. The month of May is considered unlucky to get married in and Tuesday is supposed to be an unlucky day.
    The custom is for the people to get married early in the morning. In former times they got married in the evening, or in their own house. After the wedding they go to the bride's house for their breakfast. Then they usually go for a drive through the country. They sometimes invite their friends and neighbours to the house the night of the wedding. They usually have music and dancing then. The bride's father generally her money called a fortune or dowary.
    The night of the wedding men go dressed in straw to the house of the wedding and join in the dancing and merry-making. These are called straw-men. They sometimes get money and refreshments. it was the custom in former
