The reason why the wren boys go around gathering money is to bury the wren. Some of them go very long distances. They go about all day and when night comes they divide the money among them. They have a box tied round them with a hole in it for gathering the money. There were more wren boys in former years than at present. Some of the wren boys go to the town and enjoy themselves after their long day's travelling and others go together and have a dance.
