  1. There are three forges in East Knockbride. One forge is owned by Mr Hand/ Another is owned by Mr Dowd and the other is owned by Mr Clarke. Each forge is situated along the road side. Mr Hand works his forge in place of his father who worked in it for over fifty years. Mr Dowd assisted his father while he lived and is working in it himself for over fifty years. Mr Clarke's forge is only a couple of years established.
    The forge that is situated near the school is owned by Mr Hand. The roof of the forge is thatched. Some years ago there was a galvanized roof on it but the smoke destroyed the galvanized and there was a roof of straw put on it.
