  1. The year of the big snow
Phil of the Grubs house is situated between two lakes. There was an old man living with him named Mc Cann. He died the time of the big snow. The crops were carried across the lake on the ice. In the storm Betty Callaghan started from her home in Carrickahog to go to Mass in Referagh Chapel. She made her way as far as Mc Eaneys that was about a mile from her home when she got stuck in a reek of snow. One of the children found her calling and called the father who pulled her out. It was the only Sunday there was ever known that there was no Mass in Raferagh.
