  1. Long ago people were fully grown before they wore boots or shoes. In some cases we hear of people who never wore either.
    Some children at present go barefoot in summer, but very few go barefoot all the year round.
    We can get our boots repaired locally. There are three shoe-makers that I know in our district. Years ago there were many more than there are now, as all the boots were made locally by the shoe makers.
    People sometimes wear clogs in the winter, the soles of which are made of wood.
