  1. In this district there is no account of people going barefoot. It is rare thing to see children barefoot, even in summer. Some years ago nearly all children went barefoot from May until October.
    In this locality, there are four or five shoemakers. Some years ago most of the boots were made locally.
    There are no new boots made locally, but all the shoe-makers get plenty to do at repair work. Clogs were never made locally, but occasionally one sees a person wearing them. Leather was never made in this locality.
