  1. Once upon a time there lived a man and his wife in an old house at the back of Mullagh hill. They had only one child and they were very poor. Every night they would go out for a walk and they would send a neighbur woman into their house to mind their child. One night when the woman went into the house she saw the child standing in the cradle and he looked more like a small man than a child. She told the father what she saw when he came home. The next night he told his wife he would not go out for a walk and that she could go out herself. When she went out the woman went into the house to mind the child. That night the man listened at the door and he heard the child talking to the woman. The next day the father told a wise man what he heard and what the woman saw. The wise man told him when he would go home to get a blanket and tie the fairy child in it. Then to bring it to the river and he would be there and he would drown the fairy child.
