- The name of my Townland is Coragh and it is in the Parish of Lurgan and in the barony of Castleraghan. There are nine families living in Coragh. The approximate number of people is thirty one. The family name most common is Mc. Gennis. The types of houses are mostly thatched houses.
This is how Coragh got its name. When the first inhabitants came to Coragh 160 or 170 years ago it was covered with brushwood, briars, etc., It was without fences, houses, and the land never tilled and half of it covered with bog. Four or five families came to Coragh from the eastern end of the Parish of Lurgan. It was then called Achadh-na-móna (the field of the bog.)
The four or five families got lesses of their farms, lived in huts, worked together as one man, built their houses, fenced, cropped and worked in Co. for twenty or more(continues on next page) - Collector
