  1. In our district and for miles around many remedies were applied for the different diseases of the human family. There were herbal cures and cures by charms and cures by prayers such as the mote in the eye. I knew a man who had the cure of the mote in the eye and it was by a prayer he repeated that took the mote out of the eye. I believe this was the family cure and was handed down to him. At any rate this man died and the cure was lost in this part of the country. A person going to him with a mote in the eye procured a clean plate, filled the hollow part with water, then the person who had the cure said the prayer silently and when he was finished with his prayer the mote was in the water.
There were other cures such as the dirty mouth in children. Any person boy or girl born after the death of their father cured this disease by rubbing their hand in the child's mouth.
Any baby born with its feet coming into this world foremost had the cure of the sore back by simply stepping across them three times.
If seven sons were born one after the other the seventh one had the cure of the running worm.
