  1. Smith lived in Virginia at the back of the Market House. He had a forge in it seventy years ago. He used to make wing slanes. He used to make them from old spades and shovels. He also made very bad spades. The head of them used to be two feet long and four inches wide. They were as heavy as four spades are now.These spades would last for five years. After five years they would bring them into the forge and get shoes made out of them for the horses.
    He also made iron gates he got the iron from Dundalk.
