  1. There were many poets about this district - the best known was John Farrelly better known by the name of John the Jobber who died about two years ago. Most of his poems were connected with local events. He lived in Cross. These are a few of the verses that he made at the opening of the Protestants Hall

    The Rowntrees from Mullagh who held all the ranches
    In spite of the league and defying its branches
