  1. Some travelling people still visit this district. They are not very poor. Some sell lace, porringers and others go about sharpening knives.
    The travelling folk generally stay in this district for a week. They travel in caravans and some bring asses and carts. They travel mostly in bands.
    On a fair day there is a great many gipsies to be seen. They do not tell any stories
    They put their horses in other peoples fields at night and if they saw a cow in a field they would milk her. They sometimes steal turf for a fire or if they had an ass
