  1. Candle making was very common in Ireland long ago. They were made chiefly of tallow with rush wicks. They gave a very poor light and the wicks needed to be constantly trimmed and cleaned.
    There were three kinds of candle making.
    First they used to peel the rushes and take the pip out of them.
    Them kinds of candles they were very common long ago. Then they used to roll them up and dip them in grease and let them dry.
    Afterward twine was used for wicks and a better quality of tallow took
