- They used to burn candles and lamp oil for showing light at night. They also used to burn rushes for showing light. They would take off the green skin and then they would dry them. That is what they used to use for a lamp wick.
- In some houses there was never a fire place. The people said it would burn the house and they lit it in the yard.
