  1. The ingredients that were used in making oaten bread were: oaten-meal, sugar, hot water and salt. This is the method for making it. The ingredients were mixed and rolled flat with a bottle. This is the way oaten bread was baked in some places. A slate was got and it was out standing in front of the fire with a prop behind it. The bread was then put on another slate and the two slates put standing together and it was left there for an hour to bake. It was then left out to cool.
