- Long ago the people used to eat nettles as the vegetable for the dinner. When the people would get a pound of meat they would salt it to keep it fresh so that it would last them a long time. The way oaten bread was made long ago was: oaten meal was steeped in a
basin of water in the morning and left there for three hours. The wet meal was then mixed with flour and flattened out with a bottle and put in front of the fire till it is baked.- Collector
