    At some wakes even to the present day clay pipes,tobacco,and snuff are destributed,intoxicating drink was also distributed but the Rev Father Bernard Gaffney who was later P.P. of Virginia abolished this custom.
    Many years ago songs were sung at wakes.
    Corpse is now brought to chapel in a hearse but fifty years ago,the coffin was tied on a bearer and carried on the shoulders of four men.
