  1. In 1897 during the erection of the building by Mr. M Gennis Kilnaleck Contractor, it happened that W.J. McClintock Esq late Senior Inspector of National Schools was passing on a side-car, and observing that the letter "s" was omitted on the date stone after the word school, drew the attention of the clerk of works to the omission.
    A stone-cutter from Ross. was sent for and he cut the "S" after "Carrigan" instead of after "school". The Inscription then read
    Carrigans National School
