  1. On Food Friday people do not work until after noon in this neighbourhood.
    On Easter Sunday morning the sun dances.
    On St. John's night sticks are gathered by the young men of this neighbourhood and Bonfires are lighted in conspicuous places.
    Portions of the embers are taken and thrown into the fields for good luck.
    It is not lucky to lend anything out of a house on May day.
    The 14th May and 12th November are the days of the Old Fairs" in Cavan and hiring of servants dates from these days.
    Rents were paid and are still paid for farms on these dates.
