  1. Shrove Tuesday used to be a favourite day for marriages to take place in this locality and a saying to an old bachelor is "Dont let the times in on you.
    Another saying relating to marriage is.
    Monday for health
    Tuesday for wealth
    Wednesday best day of all,
    Thursday for losses,
    Friday for crosses,
    Saturday no day at all.
    May is considered to be an unlucky time to marry
    A rhyme relating to it is
    Marry in May
    And rue the day.
    If a person dies in a certain townland the people in the same townland do not work while the corpse is being waked in the townland.
    On Good Friday the people do not work until the afternoon as it is considered unlucky in this district.
    We never begin a new job on a Saturday and we say, "A Saturdays flit is a short sit". We never dig a grave on a Tuesday as it is said to be unlucky
