  1. No other country in the world suffered as much for religions sake as Ireland did, in the year 1898, when the people were persecuted by the Penal Laws.
    The persecution began when Henry VIII tried to introduce a new religion no Catholic was allowed to practice his religion, or to own land that was worth more than a few pounds. A reward of five pound was given to anyone who would bring in the head of a priest.
