    Severe Weather
Nearly 45 years ago there was a big frost and snowstorm in this district. The town lake was frozen over. Men were employed by Mr. McCann, a shopkeeper in the town to sweep the snow into piles on the ice on the lake. Sticks were put standing in these piles and lamps were hung on them to sh? the people light to skate. There was a man employed to keep the lamps lit. There were ladders and ropes there in case of accidents. A German band which used to travel around playing on the streets, was engaged to play on the ice at night.
