    Every day at dinner hour the bog [?] -men [?] collected at one place and an hour was spent at such contests.
    Nowadays men [?] & cattle [?] ride at their ease to the Fairs. 25 or 30 years ago both man and beast underwent great hardship. I know men who walked to the Fairs in Bawnboy or Belturbet - which meant 15 or sixteen miles each way. - I also saw a man walk as far as Clones to a Fair - but not back on the same day. Time 5 hours. Distance:- about 22 Eng. miles.
