  1. It was baked in front of the fire on the hearth standing on a grid iron. It used to be baked very hard.
    Drinks
    Buttermilk - Water - new milk
    "Sowens" - Oaten meal soaked in water, etc - when milk was scarce.
    Scaulteen - Butter, sugar & whiskey heated on fire to melt. Taken while warm to cure cold.
    Mulled Porter.
    Porter - sugar added - boiled - taken for cold.
