- The farm animals are . "Horses", "asses", 'foals", "cows", "calves", "goats", "hens", "ducks", "geese", and "pigs". The local names for cows are "Polly", "Maoileen", "White head", the "Kerry", the "Bawney" and "shorthorn".
The names for horses are "Bob", "Jack", "Filly" and "Kettie". When I am bringing the cows I get a stick and I say to the cows " go on out of that".
The "byre" is the name of the cow house. Some cows are tied with a chain round their necks, and others with a cord by the horns. There is a stake stuck down in the manger and there is a ring on the stake and the chain is caught to the ring and it is put round the cows neck, and they cannot get out when they(continues on next page)- Collector
