  1. A common story heard in the district of Killyconnan and in the parish of Lavey is that of burying the "Sheaf".
If two persons or two families were on bad terms one of the parties buried a sheaf for the other.
A sheaf of corn was got and a pin was stuck in each joint of the straw. This was "waked just as if it were a corpse" for three nights. Then it was buried. The person for whom this was done became ill and suffered from pains in his joints. As the sheaf decayed the sufferer became worse and when the sheaf decayed altogether the person died.
