  1. Once upon a time a man and his wife went to a fair or market. On their way home, they came to a gate. The man got out to open it, and while he was out his wife fainted. When he got in she was not in the cart. By the time he reached it was late, and as he looked into the cart he saw a thin delicate woman, instead of his own good healthy wife. It was believed the fairies took her.
    He never believed this strange woman was his own wife. She used to be always crying and lamenting.
