  1. On St Stephen's boys and sometimes grown-up men dress themselves in disguise so as to conceal their identity. The get a box in which they place a stick and feather, pretending that they have a wren. Then they go around from house to house playing music and singing the wren song which is as follows:-
    The wren, the wren, the king of all birds
    On St Stephen's Day she was caught in the furze.
    Although she is small and her family great
    Rise up landlady and give us a treat.
    Up with the kettle and down
