  1. About two months after potatoes are set they are wed. Weeds grow usually in potatoes that are set in old ground; that is ground that oats has been grown in the year before.
    When the potatoes are wed they are sprayed. The person who sprays gets a barrel and fills it with water. Washing soda and blue stone is then put into the barrel and left for about an hour to melt. The spraying mixture is then put into a spraying machine. The man who sprays gets the machine on his back and goes up and down the furrow spraying half a ridge each time. Spraying is done to prevent blight; a very harmful disease to potatoes. Potatoes are sprayed twice or three times in this district.
