  1. Churning was an occupation greatly carried on in my district in former days. The churns used now are made of wood with three or four hoops on them and a lid on the top. There is a hole on the top of the lid in which the dash goes through.
    The milk is left to thicken in big crocks, and when it is thick it is thrown into the churn. Then it is churned with the dash. This is the old method of churning. There is very little churning done now as the milk is sent to the creamery.
