  1. Potatoes are grown on our farm.
    There is an acre sown every year. The amount never varies. My father and brother prepare the ground. The potatoes are put in ridges. First he scores the ground with a spade. Then he carts the manure and puts it here and there through the ridge.
    A while before he sets them he puts them in boxes. Then my mother cuts the potatoes leaving four or five "eyes" in each cut. Then my father spreads the manure. He puts three potatoes in each row. Each row is twelve inches apart. Then he covers them with clay.
    He shovels them once. He spays them in July. He gets four stones of
