  1. Long ago the children had no toys. They made a top from a spool pared and a string at the end of it. They made little cups from clay baked in the sun. They made little stools from pieces of wood. They made bracelets from daisies called a daisy chain. They made a monkey from monkey nuts sewn together.

  2. In this country long there were no churches the priests had to say Mass in rocks and in hiding places. There were soldiers in pursuit of priests and there was a reward of £5 for a priest at that time. There is a a place in this country called the priests leap as a priest leaped this when the soldiers were after him. The people had to go to Mass early in the morning as they were not sure of their lives. Sometimes they said Mass in houses but not for long as the soldiers were in their pursuit always.
