  1. Ye bard's and muses excuse me,
    Imploring your aimable aid,
While I do write down these few verses.
In praise of a beautiful maid,
You young men I hope you wont blame me,
For in cupids chains I am bound,
And it's all for the sake of a damsel,
She is the flower of lovely Miltown.
    II
When first I beheld this fair damsel.
It was in the sweet month of June,
The lambs they were sporting and playing
And the flowers were all in full bloom,
My eye's I did fix on this fair one,
    I thought I'd n'er see her again.
She seemed to be something enchanting
While traversing the plains of Drumlane.
    III
The small birds they seemed to adore her
As the gathered around I declare.
It was there that they held their discussion
Between Venus and that beautiful fair
    And after a tedious contention.
Their notes made the valley resound
And the all joined in singing the praises
Of the flower of lovely Miltown.
